In the name of WAR.
The crimes that most of the so called developed, peace loving nations are committing is far greater than any of the wars that are being fought by the so called 3rd world countries. If any one is to be blamed for all the deaths that are happening around the word due to war and conflict, it is the manufactures of arms and ammunition that are to be blamed.
From the period of the cold war the arms manufacturing has become a global industry and had helped the so called developed countries to maintain a ready market in the third world and have an insurance policy to grab the natural resources of these countries for a pittance.
All of us have been looking at the conflict ridden third world as a headache to the world and complain that it is the third world that makes the world a living hell. Have any of us stopped to think, why these wars started or from where they get the money to purchase weapons? I guess non of us have put in much thinking on these lines yes we do know the developed countries are the main manufactures of weapons, and we treat them as saviors for providing weapons for self defense. But we forget that they supply the weapons to both sides and makes sure a long standing solution is not found.
Yes the empire or colonialism is still at work in a different way and we see it yet we don’t. I was having some questions in my head;
1. How come countries that had a rich history and subsequently became colonies of the west ended up fighting each other? If we look at all the nations who are war ridden today, at one time or the other had been a colony of one of the so called developed country. And all these countries had been peace loving and had organized civilizations before the west conquered them.
2. If the west is talking about peace why are they in to weapons manufacture and selling them to any party who is willing to purchase them? (yes I understand as for the second amendment in the US they have a right to protect their sovereign nation but have they got a right to make other countries fight each other?)
3. The support given by many international NGO’s and other military supports, are they genuine or if we look closely in to them do we see other dealing going through, like weapons for resources or other indirect financial benefits?
4. Why cant the so called developed countries utilize almost 2 trillion dollars of investment on weapons on human development in the world as a whole? I am sure that we will be able to see a peaceful world if we do that.
5. Why is that all of us are just shouting about repercussion of war but not the reasons for the war?
I feel if most of us are genuine about our love of peaceful existence in this world it is the time for us to voice against all this weapons manufacturing and sales. This would solve many of the world issues. This would be the duty of the UN to make sure that this is carried forward. The people in the UN should be neutral and should be earth citizens not citizens of any country. Is this possible? I don’t know, but I am sure if we all get-together the voice will be heard and in time to come we will see the benefits, we have to start somewhere some day.
In the name of the war many nations are securing their status and power, in the name of the war many nations are building their economy, in the name of the war many nations are solving their unemployment issues. But at what cost? At the cost of many million human life’s. at the cost of starving many millions of people, at the cost of destroying the childhood of millions of children, at the cost of destroying our eco system. Who are the beneficiaries of these wars? Is it you and me? Or a few percentage of the so called elite world population? I wonder? And what are we doing?
We are very quick to point the finger at a nation that is at war, but do we know that we only hear what the so called powerful and the elite want us to hear? Do they want these wars to end? I wonder if these wars end what is going to happen to their economies and powerbases.
Isn’t it these power bases and economies that dictate the terms to the rest of the world? Is PEACE a possibility in this context? Can we just try to impose peace on the warring nations and expect it to work? I personally believe it is like putting a bandage on top of a wound without cleaning and applying medicine, a very superficial remedy.
I leave these thought with you to think in a broader manner. It is hard to find a exact answer yet we need to start somewhere. It will always difficult to see the truth or the reality in a situation. May be it is now time for us to think globally without any insecurities. And to advocate the beauty in diversity.
